Can we please normalize saying, Thank You for Your Service
To everyone. To the grocers, to the pilots, to the front desk security guards, to the person who opened the door for you, to the baristas, to the actors and comedians who make us laugh, to the music artists who resonate with our paths and with whom we can sing along, to the bus and train drivers, to the teachers, to the dog walkers, the florists.
We are all being of service. Those who are fighting in wars are brave and courageous. Yet, so are the rest of us. We are battling in our own lives, healing from trauma, overcoming sadness, working through mental health battles you’ll never hear about on the news. Or maybe you will. It will be in the latest school shooting. Or the drunk driver who killed a mother and her daughter has to resurrect herself to live. Or the actor who has cancer or Alzheimer’s. We are all doing our best to live, to survive, and to have a good life, or at least a normal one, whatever that looks like.
A young gentleman just remarked to me how fast the year is going by. How he didn’t feel it when he was younger, but now, yes, and maybe it’s because he’s getting older. I told him, " No, it’s because there are so many changes happening quickly, and we are being dropped into them, or they are being dropped into our lives, and we need to deal with the changes suddenly and quickly." Since COVID, everything has changed, and it’s continued from there. AI taking our jobs, or helping us, depending on how you use it or see it, and the aliens are coming, who have been here for years, but we are just now being given permission to see them.
For some people, it’s hard to wrap their heads around the fact that we are living on a PLANET in space, and we are not the only beings. What are human beings, anyway? Why are we here? And the husbands and boyfriends who pass out at the sight of their partners giving birth; is that even normal?? The disbelief of our power is something we are all overcoming and witnessing in real time. We all are not normal, and we are. We have creatures on earth, those deep-sea creatures that look scary and beautiful at the same time. When Cyber Trucks came out, I asked myself, “What are we, on Mars?” This is Earth, people. Unless they are going to Mars and will take their trucks with them? Do we really need them here? Or will there be some underground tunnels where we’ll need to do some serious off-roading?
I digress. Life is overcoming everything that isn’t love, and we’re all doing it in our own unique ways. So, thank you for your service. Thank you for showing up today. Thank you for doing your best to be here another day. Because Earth may seem crazier these days, and yet, you’re still here. Putting one foot in front of the other. Or, at the very least, waking up. Sometimes that’s all we can do in a day: be awake. And that’s enough.
So wherever you are on your path, I salute you. I salute you for being brave enough to be born on Earth. For still fighting battles we know nothing about. For saying, “I love you,” when all you want to do is scream. For bringing babies into the world when you’re unsure you’re ready to be a parent. For being brave enough to let go of your baby so someone who can’t have kids can adopt and raise your baby with all the love they can give. Thank you for your service. Thank you to the dads out there who love their kids with all their hearts and aren’t afraid to show it. Thank you to the mothers. Period. Thank you to the people who have made it hard for me to love myself, so I could learn how strong and powerful I really am, and overcome all of that to do the thing.
Thank you. Thank you for your service for living a life well-lived, in your own way. Thank you to the Centenarians who show us that living a long and healthy life is possible. Thank you to the builders, the creatives, the people who build us beautiful places to live, and decorate them so lovingly and thoughtfully. Thank you to the people who buy our products and give us a home to live in through their patronage. Thank you for your donations to causes that speak to your heart. Let’s keep on, keeping on. We are doing great. And when we’re not, we will learn something. Each one of us has a story to tell. A story to live and change the ending. Or not. Keep your story the way you want it. Live the life you want. Either way, Thank You for Your Service.
With love and appreciation,
Lisa Eve
