Beyond Labels: Am I Judging Judgment?

Beyond Labels: Am I Judging Judgment?

This week’s episode of The Wisdom Channel™ with Cassie Adams was one of the deepest yet. We explored the hidden judgments behind labels like boss babe, bestie, and toxic, and how these words can divide us rather than unite us.

As I sat with the conversation afterward, I noticed something interesting: by speaking about judgment, am I judging judgment itself?

On the show, we talked about how labels often fuel competition instead of community. I also shared how each of us has a rite of passage, and we experiment with life choices until we’re ready to grow beyond them.

So if everything is “OK,” and if everyone is simply moving through their own rite of passage, am I contradicting myself by saying we should lessen our judgments?

Here’s what Cassie and I talked about:

Judgment can be protective. Sometimes it’s a survival instinct, helping us discern what’s safe or aligned.

Judgment can also be limiting. When it boxes people in or defines them by one word, it closes the door to growth and compassion.

The shift isn’t about having no judgment at all. It’s about softening the grip, and using discernment without condemnation.

So am I judging judgment? Maybe. And maybe that’s part of my own rite of passage. Because I am learning just as you are, what works and what doesn't. I am the teacher as much as the student. The more compassion we have for ourselves, a.k.a. being less hard on ourselves, the less we will judge ourselves and others.
