Holiday Calm: A Reflection for Sensitive Hearts

Holiday Calm: A Reflection for Sensitive Hearts

The holiday season can stir many things in the body. Memories, expectations, pressure, hope, and the desire to feel connected. For sensitives, empaths, intuitives, and those on a healing path, this time of year often carries a different weight. The world becomes louder and faster while your heart may be asking for quiet.

As I sat down to record this week’s episode of The Wisdom Channel™, I could feel how much people are holding. Some are traveling to family with mixed emotions. Some are staying home to honor their energy. Some are unsure which version of people they will sit with this year. Some are choosing their own company because it brings the most peace.

Wherever you are, I honor you.
Your inner world matters. Your nervous system matters. Your peace matters.

Honoring the Practices That Support Calm

In this episode, I share several tools that have supported me. I want to acknowledge with gratitude the teachers who helped shape them.

Hand on Heart

After my dad passed, my former therapist, Patricia Rotsztain, taught me a HeartMath-inspired hand on heart exercise. I adapted it into a simple practice I could use anytime. Place your hand on your heart, close your eyes, and inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth for three rounds. If you want a deeper release, let the last exhale be an audible sigh.

Blowing Out Negative Thoughts

During my studies with Holographic Kinetics and Steve Richards, we learned to release thoughts, feelings, and emotions tied to past events. My present version is simple. When a negative thought arises, I take a breath and blow it out before it settles in my body. If someone says something triggering, I blow that feeling and energy out too. It clears the field quickly and brings inner peace.

Clearing My Food with My Hands and Energy

For more than fifteen years, I have blessed my food before eating. When you are sensitive, you can feel how food was prepared. Placing my hands over my meals began intuitively as a way to give thanks and clear what didn’t align. Over time I learned to rub my palms together first, creating an energetic field, then place them over the plate and ask the food to nourish me in my highest and best way. This brings my body into ease and supports digestion.

Rubbing Hands Together to Awaken Energy

I learned this technique at Sedona Mago. Rubbing the hands together awakens your energy field and makes it easier to feel. It also helps when you want to clear your body with your own energy.

I am grateful for every teacher and every moment that shaped these tools.

Navigating the Holidays with Care

Holiday gatherings often bring heightened emotions. Being around people who have known you your whole life can stir tender places or activate old patterns. You are allowed to pause. You are allowed to step outside. You are allowed to breathe before responding. You are allowed to choose peace over expectation. You are allowed to leave tables where you don't feel safe. This is self-respect.

When your body tightens, place your hand on your heart and breathe. When someone says something that lands heavily, blow it out. You deserve a clear inner space. If eating in mixed energy feels challenging, ask your Spirit to transmute the food to align with your energy for better digestion, and with everything you're feeling. You can create calm moments when needed.

Creating Peace in Your Own Way

I have spent many holidays on my own. Sometimes this happened naturally. Sometimes it was a choice to honor my energy. The last time I had a Thanksgiving meal with my family was in 2022. When plans do not unfold in a shared way, I may feel sadness before returning to myself and recognizing that quiet can also be beautiful for my nervous system. I have learned to accept invitations when connection flows naturally and in ways that feel grounded and fun.

If you are spending the holidays alone, know that you are never alone. You may feel a quiet inner ache, but trust that the inner calm is more rewarding for your heart than chaos and drama. And without the pressure of gift-giving or the stress of wondering whether something will be received well, there is space to breathe. Sometimes calm comes from learning how to hold yourself when no one else is holding you.

Whether you thrive in a room full of loved ones or in solitude, your way is valid. Just do what honors your heart.

Let this be the season you choose what feels true for you. Let this be the season you trust your body’s signals. Let this be the season you give yourself permission to rest.

Your heart deserves that level of care.
